Hansen’s Forest Ecology Scholarship

Hansen’s Forest Ecology Scholarship is a new scholarship that was established in 2021, by a gracious donation from the David Hansen Family.

Indigenous Science Associate of Arts Degree, with an emphasis in Forest Ecology

Indigenous Science emphasis in Forest Ecology Program is a two-year course of study designed for students to receive an Associate in Art Degree (A.A.) upon completion of the requirements. Gikenimindwaa Mitigoog translates to ‘getting to know the trees,’ an apt description for a program which provides graduates with broad-based field knowledge of forest lands, the organisms inhabiting them and the systems (soil, water, air) that support them. Student’s complete coursework designed to develop an understanding of natural systems, examine human impacts and interactions, and practice relevant field and technical skills. The Indigenous Science emphasis in Forest Ecology program is intended for students with an interest in plant communities, water, forestry, wildlife, and fisheries and/or recreation management.

Criteria:

1.  Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time student at the Leech Lake Tribal College for the upcoming Fall 2024 semester.

2.  Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or Higher.

3.  Applicant must be currently enrolled in or have a demonstrated interest in the LLTC, Forest Ecology program.

Additional Preferred Criteria (not required):

4.  Additional consideration will be given to a student that demonstrates both the potential and desire to start a career in the Forest Ecology field.
