Residential Builder Certificate

The Residential Builder program coursework will provide the student with a mix of technical and general education, theory and hands-on learning experiences. The student progresses from basic skills to those required of a carpenter’s apprentice. General areas of study include building codes, blueprint reading, estimating, site building-science layout, concrete, framing, and interior & exterior finish. The program provides graduates with skills required of a carpenter in a variety of building construction settings common in rural, metro or reservation settings. Or you may choose to further your education towards a two-year Integrated Residential Builder A.A.S. (60 credits). All of the courses in the one year Residential Builder program (30 credits) are required for the two year Integrated Residential Builder A.A.S. degree program.

Note: Please avoid plastic tools if possible.

Required Basic Hand Tools 

  • 25′ tape measure
  • Tool belt with hammer loop and pouches
  • Safety glasses ANSI approved
  • 7″ speed square
  • 12″ combination square
  • Chalk line with blue chalk
  • Carpenter pencils and permanent marker
  • Torpedo level
  • 24″ level
  • 16 oz. smooth-face claw hammer
  • Utility knife with extra blades
  • Cat's paw / nail puller
  • 12″ pry bar
  • Nail set
  • Wood chisels: 1/4″, 1/2″, 3/4″, and 1″
  • Screwdriver set — Phillips and slotted or 6 in 1 combo
  • 10″ adjustable wrench
  • Pliers/ nail puller type
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and basic consumables

 

Note: Students do not need to purchase the most expensive brands. Tools should be durable enough for regular shop and jobsite use.
