Course Description
This course provides students with a more holistic understanding of reality by combining Anishinaabe cultural perspectives with Western scientific knowledge. Students will explore ecological phenomena rooted in Anishinaabe traditions and ceremonies to gain a holistic view of the world. The course aims to encourage critical analysis of contemporary environmental issues, such as deforestation, climate change, biodiversity loss, and their impact on human health. To achieve this, the course will integrate Indigenous knowledge with modern scientific perspectives through interactive lectures, group discussions, and experiential learning activities. Guest lectures from Indigenous scholars and practitioners will also supplement the course material. Emphasis will be placed on developing students’ respectful engagement with Indigenous communities and knowledge holders, including land and more than human relatives. Prerequisite: ENGL 101.
