Summary

The Wellness Coordinator leads the development, implementation, and manages the culturally grounded wellness initiatives for students, staff, and faculty at the Leech Lake Tribal College. This position promotes holistic health by integrating physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness by combining Anishinaabe traditions with contemporary practices. The coordinator oversees campus wellness programming, manages the free store, and facilitates workshops and activities designed to support healthy living, food sovereignty, and community well-being. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Associate’s degree in health, education, social services, or related field 
  • Experience in program coordination, wellness promotion, or health education 
  • Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, tradition, and community values 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in health promotion, community health, education, or related field 
  • Experience in higher education or tribal college setting 
  • Background in mental health navigation, nutrition, fitness, or related initiatives 
  • Ability to lead/ implement workshops in promoting health and wellbeing  

Essential Responsibilities

Program Development & Coordination 

  • Develop programs in alignment with the college’s mission statement of providing quality higher education grounded in Anishinaabe values. 
  • Design, implement, and evaluate wellness programs that support physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. 
  • Organize workshops, classes, and activities focusing on areas such as exercise, nutrition, mental well-being, health education, and social interactions.  
  • Incorporate Anishinaabe traditional methods of health and wellness into programming. 
  • Willingness to travel and participate in professional development. 

Health & Wellness Services 

  • Serve as a resource and navigator for mental health services, connecting students and staff with appropriate community resources. 
  • Assist students in accessing resources on contracted retention platform.  
  • Coordinate guest speakers, healers, and facilitators to expand wellness offerings. 
  • Promote food sovereignty and healthy eating practices through gardening, food preservation, and traditional food knowledge. 

Community Engagement & Collaboration 

  • Build and maintain partnerships with local health organizations, clinics, fitness centers and tribal programs to expand support networks. 
  • Encourage and challenge students, staff, and faculty to participate in wellness events and activities. 
  • Create culturally relevant health and wellness campaigns. 

Free Store Management  

  • Oversee the daily operations of the LLTC free store, ensuring it is accessible, welcoming, and stocked accordingly. 
  • Process (eliminate poor quality or outdated items), rotate donations, and store excess donations. 
  • Organize seasonal donation drives, an exchange board, and maintain inventory. 
  • Promote the free store as a resource for stress reduction, supporting students, and meeting basic needs.
