Biography:
My name is Samantha Fairbanks, I am an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe. I was raised in Bemidji but my family comes from Ball Club.
I graduated from college in 2015 from Bemidji State University with 2 degrees in Social Work and Indian Studies. Going to college was the best thing that I have ever done for myself. I really found who I was in the college setting. I was very involved in a student organization, the Council of Indian Students, and participated in an advisory committee that led to my success. I met great life-long friends along the way as well.
Through liberal education I ended up in a Social Work class and thought to myself, I think I could do this for a living. I took another class which confirmed it. I eventually graduated and became a Licensed Social Worker which I have been practicing since I graduated.
I really look forward to serving this community. I have practiced social work in many settings and I have worked with very diverse groups of people and encountered many problems that required me to develop many skills for problem-solving. Through this practice I learned a lot about independence and accountability. My goal is to help you all get there too.
