Michiko Arima-Cissell - Business Instructor
During the two-week long Summer 2006 Lannan Summer Institute at the Newberry Library in Chicago, I was privy to attend the Federal Indian Law and Policy and Your Community History workshop. The topic of discussion was 19th- and 20th-century federal Indian policy and law as it relates to present community history and pedagogy. Participant were instructors from several AIHEC tribal colleges as near as Leech Lake, and College of Menomonee and as far away as Fort Peck, Blackfeet, Little Big Horn, Comanche Nation and the Crownpoint Institute. When we weren't in the workshop, we were allowed to access old books, documents and photographs related to the tribes from our respective college communities. A tour of the Great Lakes regional facilities for the National Archives and Records Administration was also included.
