Full-Time President Named at LLTC
On July 31, 2009, the Tribal Council of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe unanimously approved the LLTC Board of Trustees recommendation to appoint Dr. Ginny Carney as President of the College. Dr. Carney, who has served as Interim President since December 22, 2008, joined the faculty of Leech Lake Tribal College in 2001. In addition to serving on the faculty, she has also held positions as Chair of the Arts & Humanities Department, Associate VP of Academics, and VP of Academic and Student Affairs during her tenure at LLTC. Dr. Carney holds a PhD in English from the University of Kentucky; prior to completing that program, she balanced the work of earning a B.A. degree in English (1969), an R.N. degree (1979), and an M.A. degree in English (1989), with raising 23 children (biological, foster, and adopted).

Leech Lake Tribal College Receives Official Notification of Accreditation
At its meeting in Chicago on September 25, 2006 , an Accreditation Review Committee voted to grant initial accreditation status to Leech Lake Tribal College , and on October 10, 2006 , Leah Carpenter, President of LLTC, received formal notification of the College's accreditation status with The Higher Learning Commission. In his letter to President Carpenter, Steven Crow, Executive Director of the HLC, wrote, "I am delighted to inform you of the Commission's action and to congratulate you on this significant achievement. I welcome Leech Lake Tribal College into the membership of the North Central Association, and I look forward to your participation in the work of The Higher Learning Commission." The panel recommended the maximum initial accreditation period of five years with no focused visits required.
